REVIVE

Reviving marine ecosystems through habitat restoration measures

The project aims to safeguard habitats and biodiversity from rapid decline by developing effective monitoring tools and conservation measures to support ecosystem restoration.

Science-Driven Habitat Renewal for a Resilient Sea

The REVIVE project focuses on restoring and protecting marine ecosystems through targeted, science-based interventions.

Mission

REVIVE plans to expand priority marine habitats through the creation of artificial reefs designed to enhance biodiversity and strengthen ecosystem resilience.

Vision

At the same time, the project will investigate the impacts of marine litter and invasive alien species to better understand and mitigate their effects on habitat degradation and biodiversity loss.

Target Ideas

Key actions driving our restoration efforts.

Cross-Border Collaboration for a Shared Environmental Goal

REVIVE brings together five Maltese and Italian partners, uniting their expertise to restore and protect Mediterranean ecosystems.

University of Malta

leads communication and dissemination activities, manages digital outputs and stakeholder engagement, and supports field studies and restoration actions within Maltese waters.

Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche – Istituto per l’Impatto Antropico e Sostenibilità in ambiente marino

serves as the Lead Partner, coordinating project management and implementation while contributing its extensive scientific expertise in marine biodiversity, habitat restoration, and environmental sustainability.

University of Palermo

coordinates baseline data collection and ecological research, focusing on invasive species assessment, habitat mapping, and the design of restoration strategies for marine ecosystems.

Ambjent Malta

leads the implementation phase, carrying out field interventions such as marine litter monitoring and removal, invasive species control, and habitat restoration within Maltese coastal areas.

Istituto Superiore Per La Protezione E Ricerca Ambientale

supports scientific monitoring and data analysis, contributing advanced methodologies for assessing marine litter and invasive species, and providing policy-relevant insights to enhance environmental governance.
